It is said that it is difficult to learn Japanese because of the large number of characters.
It is said that there was no character in ancient Japan.
Of course there was a language.
So the Japanese imported characters from China.
This is kanji.
This is why there are two ways to read Japanese kanji.
Chinese reading. "ondoku"
Example
花(flower) "ka"
This is a kanji that has been adapted to Japanese traditional reading. "kundoku"
Example
花(flower) "Hana"
However, as you can see, kanji is not suitable for shorthand.
Therefore, it is said that hiragana and katakana were created by breaking the kanji.
Should we learn hiragana or katakana?
Both are better than remembering.
I recommend learning the fun one first.
Hiragana is most often used in Japanese sentences.
But, I think it would be more practical to learn katakana.
